I don’t think you’re crazy at all! If you find Facebook interesting, then that’s just as good as Google.

As for myself, I’m a mathematician pretending to be a computer programmer (I’ve discovered that I dislike teaching), wondering how I can find a small start-up willing to try out unusual languages, like Python, Haskell, or Lisp!

It’s true that some/much of FB is in PHP, but they also use other languages. Chat appears to be written primarily in Erlang, for example. So I’m not too afraid. :-)

I came across your site after searching for some git tips, had read most of the entries; then actually had wondered how your dissertation writing ended. I’m writing my dissertation too, for my MSc degree. :)
