What is this?
My doctoral research is to come up with an algorithm capable of identifying the registration (huh?) used in an audio recording of a performance on a pipe organ.

I will post news from time to time on this feed.
I have completed the prospectus. You can read it, and look at the presentation slides. Now I begin gathering data—lots of it. I will be recording organs around Las Cruces and in the Salt Lake and Utah valleys over the next month. Then I will try some preliminary algorithms, and iteratively work toward a working algorithm. Finally, I will finish the dissertation and graduate. What could be simpler? I expect to graduate in May 2009.
I need your help
If you have access to a pipe organ (or electronic pipe organ or hybrid) and some recording equipment, you can help me out by recording some scales and pieces (they don't have to be perfect). If you are able to do this, please contact me and I will give you more details.
